Top Five Kid Friendly Apps in the iTunes Store

I don't like my kids watching violent stuff on TV, I actually thought the latest Harry Potter movie was a bit much. Call me an old fuss pot, but they will have plenty of time to see plenty of violence once they grow up. My kids are 6, 9 and 12, and I'd like them to have a real childhood, and keep their innocence. So when I buy them apps from the app store I try to get them fun ones that are also educational (if I can) but definitely NOT violent.

So here's the Top Five I came up with,

SpongeBob Squarepants JellyFish Jam

This app actually is five apps in one. All the mini-games involve training your sense of rhythm. Not something I'm particularly good at, but my kids were amazing! In the first game, Let's Rock, you have to tap burgers as they slide down a pole, in tune to music. I failed miserably, and had to really try to get a halfway decent score (and still lost to the kids)

Droplets HD

A strategic puzzler with unwinding in mind: it has soothing sound effects and the "action" takes place in the rain forest. It's down to your skills to connect all the drops of water. Great fun, and hundreds of levels and obstacles.

Fruit Ninja

A big favorite with people of all ages, such a fun game and what's more innocent than slicing fruit? You can play on your own or take each other on. Great fun! And the people behind this game, who got very, very rich of it, didn't fritter all their money away on yachts, they also made an orchard in a disadvantaged country somewhere. (though I bet they spent quite a bit of their other earnings on stuff like yachts, this game has been down loaded like a trillion times)

Dubble

A little shooter game that just goes on and on. You have to make rows of three and it's quite a tactical game. You can either play on your own (I really like to unwind playing a couple of rounds of Dubble) or against each other. Mind that they don't throw the iPad on the floor though, if your kids are anything like mine, it can get quite competitive!

Crazy Miner Bob

Our current house favorite, the very cute and extremely addictive Crazy Miner Bob! Everything about this game is adorable, the music, the graphics, the little mouse that gets a helmet at some point: just lovely. It's an arcade type game where you have to grab bits of gold from the ground: very good for hand eye coordination training!
