The Greatest Gift You Can Give Your Child Is Self Esteem!

By Janie Walker

Low self esteem is so hard for any parent to deal with in their child. Bullying is rife in our society and these kids can either become the bully or be bullied. Low self esteem is a major source of low achievement at school.

Having raised 3 children to be happy, achieving, rounded, caring, respectful parents, friends, daughters & sons (Though not angels!) I do have some expertise in this area.

Additionally, before my marriage to David I was a nanny. An interesting study in parenting!

Just being thoughtless, we treat those we love most badly and wonder why they have low self esteem & poor confidence in themselves. I'm sure if we understood more we would be shocked at the effect we can have with out actions.

One of my jobs was looking after 2 children, Claire & Tom, 15 & 13 year old English kids. Great people, and the parents lovely people.

However, the parents thought it was 'modern' to let the son have 'elevenses' (a late morning beer)! Or to have alcohol at a party? Or to go to adolescent parties unattended by adults. Or to smoke a 'bit' of Pot! And certainly to have no set limits they knew to adhere to.

This didn't meet with what I believed was a way to raise kids. Fully 20, travelling the world, as cocky as you like I started to 'lay down the law' not only to the children but to the parents as well. To give them their due they kept employing me, I think they were realising that what they were doing wasn't really working.

The great lesson I learned from this was that when these children were given boundaries, even though they bucked against them, they loved it. The biggest thing I learned was that they knew I cared. They told me they weren't sure their parents loved them?

With our family, a few times we took the TV out of the house. Often the children would fight over programs or something and we would have a couple of weeks TV free. One of the reasons people don't want to do this I think, is that we, the adults like our TV too!!!!

The magic was that after a day or so they went outside, played happily, more creatively, read books, and even did homework happily.

Don't have a TV in your child's bedroom. (Nor, even more critically a computer). Today most homes would have 2 televisions, but they must be in common areas as with computers.

3 good reasons for this are:-

It is very isolating to sit alone in a bedroom. Isolation breeds loneliness.
Children need to know you care about what they are watching or what they have on their computers screens.
They need to feel they are part of a family, that they belong, and that you want them near.

We looked at dinner as a time for the family to be together. TV was off and a discussion of the day was on! A special treat was a pizza in front of the television.

Another important builder of confidence and self esteem for kids is having jobs to do around the home that add to the smooth running of the household. Garbage, vacuuming, bed, kitchen cleaning. Laying the table, mowing the lawn. There are so many ways for a child to feel they are contributing to the family and household.

Children need to be kept busy especially as they mature. There is no end to the 'creativity' of a child with too much time on their hands. If you want mischief, you'll get mischief!!

Here are 20 tips that will help you...........

Don't end the day with an argument. Always sort it before you sleep.
Be optimistic, we get what we think about!
Always back your partner's decisions even if you don't agree. Discuss it privately later.
NEVER be embarrassed to say "I love you"
Let your child know that no matter what they do you will always be there for them. They can always talk to you...good or bad. And you WILL believe them.
    Discipline firmly but without anger.
Not all bruises show on the outside. Words can be equally bruising!
Sometimes there are no words to sooth only to be held close!
Teasing is rarely a self-esteem builder but we all must learn not to take ourselves too seriously.
Let you child take responsibility for their mistakes. There are consequences for miss deeds.
Do outdoor activities with your child, it's great for bonding.
Let your child see you cry if you're upset.
No matter what it is, if your child made it or chose it, love it. Their taste will improve
Pick up on the 'right' things they do so you aren't just the 'corrector!
Don't overreact to sniffles, hypochondria is a communicable disease!
Boundaries are requirements for a child's feeling of security.
"Rough house' play with Dad is a child way of learning from you where risk begins. It is important.
Have fun and be silly with your child, laugh, tell stories.
Make sure your child gets plenty of affectionate touch.
Be very careful talking about your child in front of them.
Really listen to your child. Don't interrupt. Don't finish their sentences.

"Self esteem is not something to teach, it is absorbed. It's not something we package; it takes time----our time, the lap time, the playtime, the fun time, the bedtime. But it's the most important gift we can give our children."

Kids will be overjoyed to interact with cartoon stars from the Disney Playhouse.

Further, the games are structured perfectly to present appropriate choices for each age group. Most of the games are informative, though a few are entertainment-oriented and meant for fun and leisure. Several video games, such as 'Koko's Color Field' and 'Quincy and the Magic Devices' are centered on Colors and Shapes, which help children to learn and identify colors and object shapes. Besides, the whole entertainment is vivid with attractive colors and pleasant yet lively music. The website is child-friendly and allows easy navigation, so that children can easily access their choice games.

All the Disney junior games are easy to understand for the relevant age-group and the friendly interface helps children to understand things at a glance. So, people who are not familiar with English can select the appropriate native language from the language list offered on the site. Once the language is set, the site will start interacting in the chosen language and the games will also be based on the selected language. This is an added advantage for children as they will not have to blink and ponder for every subsequent step.

Apart from games, there are stories, puzzles and short educational series that are informative. Disney also updates the website regularly with newer games, which means that your child's Disney experience will not be diminished by monotony. Playing newer games day after day with favorite, traditional Disney characters can be a unique experience for children. Unlike several other video games that are based on fighting and violence, Disney junior games blend fun and learning in a marvelous way to impart interesting knowledge to kids.

In a nutshell, Disney Junior Games provides an assortment of amusement activities that are interesting, entertaining and educational for children. Children might actually learn one or more useful things from most of the games.

Learn To Believe In Yourself

By Michele Renee

It's hard for kids these days to believe and hold onto their own moral values. There are so many outside sources that promote wrong and immoral behavior. Doing the right thing and living an upright lifestyle isn't great entertainment. Most shows promote drinking, lying, and sex. Most shows have people living together that are not married and it has become socially acceptable. Today's youth does not have to adhere to the worlds ideals and they can raise their own standards and be confident and secure.

The first place this needs to start is in the home. Kids need to see a positive role model and if not, they will search out what is acceptable to society. The problem with this is that society doesn't always provide a true moral representative. As children grow up, they need to know their worth. That doesn't mean that you should tell them they are the best at everything. Positive reinforcement is key, but there has to be a balance. Letting children know that there will be ups and downs and they are not always going to win will help mature them and be secure in themselves as individuals. Teaching them right from wrong, and letting them know that even though no one is watching, doing the right thing builds character and integrity. As these attributes grow in a child, they will develop into a person that people want to be with; a person that others will speak highly of. All of this starts in the home and the example that is being set forth. Everyone needs to take inventory of their own values and actions and see if there needs to be revamping. Once a parent or an adult decides to change, other will take notice and it will have the trickledown effect.

Teaching children about sex is of the utmost importance. Explaining that sex is not just physical and that it is emotional is great. Letting them confidently know that sex is something that is to be shared between two married individuals that takes two people and joins them together as one is vital. Instilling this sense of pride for waiting will not only help them in their decision to wait, but will make it okay and make them happy and bold to let others know the choices they have made. Kids need to know about sex from their parents or the adults in their lives, because if they don't they are going to learn about it from their peers.

Kids need to have rules and values put in front of them so they can know what is right and wrong. Children learn more by what people do rather then what they are told to do. You can't tell a child something not to do and then do it. You are sending a wrong message and in the end, they will not follow the instruction. They will do what they see other people who are influential in their lives do. Changing the next generation into high moral, honest and trust worthy individuals will be the change that this country needs. They will be our next leaders, politicians, Wall Street workers, financial advisors, and teachers. With a generation like this, there are no limits to what can happen.

Kids Clothing and Baby Dolls

By Manoki Kumari Rathor

Selecting clothes for your kids might be very challenging. As you are choosing clothing for your children, it is right choice to take your child together with you. Encourage your child to have her or his own perspectives about the style. They will be very excited and happy when they buy their own clothing. They would be more likely be interested in wearing the clothes frequently. Suitable clothes will make your child adorable and cute. Now there are various styles of child clothes, but some are too mature or revealing for children. As a responsible parent, you should carefully choose the appropriate clothing for your child.

Though you want your children become the fashion vane among his or her peers, you should also consider his or her age. As children have tender skin, they need clothes made of soft materials. Even though clothes or dresses with laces or sequins are popular, you should remove them from your shopping list. Clothes made from 100 percent cotton would be the best choice for your child. Furthermore, you can choose branded clothes for they are not only making your child comfortable but also stylish. Choosing the right party clothes for kids is very important thing that you should do.

One thing that you should consider before you in choosing the party clothes for kids is that you should consider about what party your kids will attend. After you know about this, you are able to choose the right clothes that they are able to wear. In choosing the right party kids clothing, you may need to find information in the magazines or internet. There are many casual party clothes that you are able to wear in attending the casual party. The parents need to get a cloth that will last longer. Don't buy clothes that are out of season. Buy clothes while taking care of cold and hot weather conditions. A summer dress should be flowing and lightweight.

Choosing kids clothing is a very difficult process as you should choose comfortable clothes that basically depend on cotton and similar fabrics. Choosing the right fabrics will help your kid feel comfortable while playing and during the daily activities at school or even while being out, or in a trip. Such important matter of fabrics would drive your search for many types and brands until you settle on one. Many stores also introduce nice home collections for your kids such as velour pajamas, cotton pajamas, shorts, and so on.

The children at the younger ages mostly play with cuddly baby dolls. Cloth baby dolls that can be machine washed are the best pick for this age because they are softest and most durable. Be sure the baby doll you choose does not have parts that can be swallowed if they come off. Boys generally will prefer dolls that are male. Recycling Games for Kids

Teaching kids good habits, like recycling, is best done when they are still young and more receptive to new ideas. Making them aware from the very beginning of the benefits of recycling is the most effective approach. It needs to be an integral part of their lives. As they grow older and become more aware of how they can contribute towards preserving the environment, they can make an even greater impact on our environment. Many school children starting from Kindergarten are already actively involved in reducing, reusing and recycling. Hopefully, we will see a generation of recyclers after us, if we begin with the kids - now!

Kids can be taught how to properly recycle, how to make new things from materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash. They will have to learn that recycling, or making new things from recycled materials, costs a lot less money, consumes much less energy and saves a lot of the Earth's natural resources, thereby helping the environment.

Instead of indiscriminately throwing things into the trash bin, recycling for kids programs can start with creative ways of teaching children how to make new and useful items from refuse coming out of the home and the classrooms in the school. There are currently websites in the Internet that are dedicated to such recycling for kids initiatives. They provide creative ideas on how to teach kids good recycling habits and ideas. Both at home and at school we can begin by initiating recycling games or recycling contests, making use of very common items like soda cans, toilet rolls, milk cartons and whatever other materials that are very familiar to children instead of just throwing these items away. Parents and Teachers can work together on what items can be recycled when at home, at school or out in the community. We need to actively encourage our kids to think about what can be recycled, so that it becomes second nature to them.

Pictures of landfills can be shown in class to make kids realize how much space can be saved through recycling. They can be taught that instead of garbage being thrown away and taking up space and possibly damaging the environment, it is a lot better and more environmentally friendly, to recycle things. Soda cans, paper and cardboard, as well as glass bottles can be recycled. Plastics of all kinds can also be recycled. Parents and Teachers can make recycling games out of "how long before.... (item) disintegrates and goes back to earth?" It can be surprising to learn how many years it will take for a plastic water bottle to break down and become part of the Earth. The energy saved by recycling also results in less pollution and children will become aware how damaging pollution is to our environment. Think about the natural resources that are saved by recycling materials from old products that would otherwise have been thrown away. A trip to a recycling center can be part of a recycling for kids program so that they can actually see what happens after an item is recycled.

Great recycling games for kid's, would be to trace the progress of an aluminium soda can from the time it is mined from the Earth. The amount of energy and the man hours needed to produce a soda can, the can's journey as it gets filled with soda, gets bought from the grocery store and is cooled in the refrigerator at home, then placed in the child's lunch bag, and then thrown away. The same idea can be done with a glass bottle or the daily newspaper. Create fun ways for kids to explore the best ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, preserving the environment for themselves and future generations.

When you're reading car seat reviews, it can seem very confusing - every seat uses different terminology, and it requires a lot of research to figure out the advantages of any particular seat. This means it can be hard to figure out what exactly Britax Frontier 85 SICT reviews mean in practical terms of safety for your child.

Here's a quick guide to the advantages of the Britax Frontier 85 SICT so you can decide whether this is the right one for you.

Side Impact Technology
The cushions mentioned by numerous Britax Frontier 85 SICT reviews as one of its main advantages are designed to protect your child in any side-impact crash. This is better than most others, even other Britax models, meaning it's ideal for cars without side-impact airbags. Crash forces from the side can be deadly in car seats without side protection, and this seat redirects up to 45% of the crash impact energy by compressing cushions before the energy ever reaches your child.

Harness System
The ultra-guard system keeps your child's head from moving forward too far in a crash, which can result in whiplash and other common neck and head injuries. The harness is a staged-release model, meaning it will slowly release rather than allowing the child to jerk forward suddenly. This system anchors the seat while stopping excessive forward rotation.

Adaptable Design
You aren't going to be looking up another one as soon as your child outgrows this seat, as it is specially designed to accommodate children of all ages and weights. Children as young as two can be accommodated by this booster seat, with weight as low as 40 pounds, and as a belt-positioning booster, children up to 120 pounds will fit. The harness adjusts to ten different heights of up to 20" shoulder height and can be easily adjusted with one hand.

True Impact Protection
The true side impact protection included with this car seat will protect your child in a variety of ways. It helps to keep the crash force distributed evenly and directed away from your child, keeps your child's head, neck, and spine lined up properly, and protects in the event of a vehicle intrusion.

Car seat reviews can often use complex terminology that just doesn't make sense, but when Britax Frontier 85 SICT reviews are simplified, you can easily see that this car seat will protect your child more than any other.

Large Scouting Groups - Have Their Organizational Changes Harmed Their Programs Any?

By J Delms

Large scouting organizations (male, female or both) constantly undergo adaptations, changes, and reorganization, both big and small. For example, yesteryear's Campfire Girls is now Campfire USA, which today has almost as many boys enlisted in its programs as girls. Also, the Boy Scouts and Explorer programs now have more female leaders and gender-mixed activities.

Additionally, the Girl Scouts of the USA recently realigned themselves by merging 312 councils across the country into 109. Several campgrounds were closed or sold through this merger, some of them popular ones. This merger also changed several district and regional boundaries, which caused a few frictional control issues at the local levels. Yet, their ingenious outdoor camping programs remain basically the same as they were before the merger, except they now take place in few campgrounds with larger attendances.

One Midwestern girl-scout leader was slightly frustrated by this merger, and claimed in a newspaper article that "when a girl learns how to pitch a tent, and cook a meal over a fire, she has learned skills that will do her well the rest of her life." Truer words were never spoken.

Actually, the training of our youth in the worlds of nature and outdoor survival offers much more than these simple basics. It also teaches necessary teamwork, respect for nature and fellowmen, clear thinking, confidence, self-reliance, life-skills, and reverence toward forces greater than ourselves. Also, the recital of scouting oaths, codes, and mottoes instill worthwhile positive thinking. Furthermore, in certain summer camping programs, most electronic devices, especially the routine co-dependent, time-consuming games, are left at home.

Five causes behind these organizational changes

1. Outdated merit badges, dress codes, facilities, technologies, and customs. Today, for example, most young people wear well-made comfort shoes instead of the heavy hiking boots of yesteryear. Writing and typewriting merit badges have shifted toward computer and similar device usages instead.

2. Loss or gain of membership. Changing neighborhoods and/or demographics can affect organizational size and memberships, sometimes for the better.

3. Societal factors. Today's youth have become more cosmopolitan by dealing with multiethnic issues routinely. They deal with such issues at school, and later, in their work places.

4. Loss of finances (poor cookie or popcorn sales; lawsuits). Losses of annual dues, regular donations, and sales revenues will affect organizational size and management trends. An occasional scandal or lawsuit will also affect these trends and their financial capabilities.

5. Need for new program options. Contemporary changes and lifestyles needs will bring about program changes. For example, increased single parenting has brought on the need for shared role-modeling in these organizations. Also, multiethnic memberships require specific program adjustments for all.

Conclusion

Although scouting organizations continually evolve for necessary improvement, modernization, and survival, their basic programs and teachings remain positive and enlightening for all their members. Thus, today's scouting programs prepare their members for how to live and survive in an ever-changing world. To learn more about scouting and similar groups, see these websites.

How Can Motivating Your Children Make a Big Difference in Their Lives

By Darrel Jones

Motivating your Children can have an Enormous Effect on their lives. You have seen so many children in the past 20 years have a Tremendous amount of changes in their lives, due to the Increase in Drugs & Alcohol, Drug Related Disease, Technology, and Parental Economics.

First let's look at the Drug & Alcohol Situation, and then we'll look at Prescription Drugs. Easier access is a Big Part of the Problem. There are more Drug Pushers (sellers) than ever before, with new techniques on getting Drugs in to your kids hands. The Internet used hourly, to contact kids through certain Coded Words & Phrases, sometimes makes Connections very easy.

Technology has allowed a large amount of Forged Documents such as I.D. Cards, Drivers Licenses etc., which have become very common place in fooling businesses, to purchase alcohol among other things. Pills are widely available online, only by stating or checking a box indicating that you are 18 or 21 years of age. More than ever, you know of many of your friends and relatives who are forced to have both members of their families work longer and sometimes stranger hours due to today's' Economics.

Todays' Economics being as they are, larger home payments, larger car payments, more costly fuel for home and car, and a major rise in College Education and so on. You and I find ourselves spending more time away from our children due to these factors. When in reality you should be spending more Motivating Your Children.

Children's supervision in some cases is almost nonexistent. So, it's easy to see why Tommy or Tina develop bad habits at home. Kids communicate to each other by text about mom and dad's pills or alcohol cabinet having easy access. So you can see the temptations are there. If you don't Motivate your children in a Positive Manner, someone may find a Negative Manner to influence them.

At the beginning of our HIV Crisis, when needles were being passed around from drug user to drug user, it seemed like the disease spread like wildfire. It was easy to hide, so it was passed along as the use of cocaine users as well as other illegal drug users, not the general population. So it wasn't as isolated as the general population was lead to believe.

Mary and I have spoken to many drug users and pushers over the years and know this field all too well. That's part of the reason for our formation of C.C.A.A.D., Concerned Coaches and Athletes Against Drugs. It enabled us to reach Kids and Parents through our Motivational Speaker Program, nationally. High Schools, Colleges, Civic Organizations, and the like.

Meeting lot of individual parents is not possible. So through larger audiences and our Guide and Monthly News Letter it has helped many parents work with their children. Parents must understand how Important it is to have Personal Motivating Contact with their Children on a regular basis about these dangers. Motivating Your Children should be and on going function in your family.

As you can see by the Picture and accompanying article below, Darrel made a Big Mistake getting into a car with a friend celebrating the last payment on that car. The Driver was Drinking, Darrel was not, but Due to that mistake Five Years later he underwent a four hour surgery for a Basketball Injury believed to be the result of injuries sustained from the car accident. That surgery would end Darrel's Baseball Career and change his Life Forever. He found out then you must be In charge of Your Destiny!

While under hospital supervision, Darrel was repeatedly given at least 20 different Narcotics including Demerol, Morphine, and Talwin, upon which he became severely dependent. Pain relief became secondary to the irresistible high he experienced from the narcotics, and withdrawal caused extreme anxiety between shots. You can see why both Darrel and I believe in the importance of communicating with your children on a regular basis.

Let us address a few of the methods we use. A Daily if Possible, but weekly for sure Goal Setting Meeting or Program in your Household is a must. Even at a young age you need to speak with your children about the Ramifications of Drug, Smoking, and other Substance Abuse. Use details of the Consequences of their use. If you are going to Motivate Children, it is wise to use Inspiring Language. You need to know about the kids they hang around with, their back grounds, and their parents back grounds. Always update these weekly, and watch for changes in your kids, their friends, and parents behavior. Keep close tabs on your Liquor, Pills, Smoking Material, and any other drug or potential habit forming items such as Spray Paint or Huffing Substances.

Children need to be aware of long-term consequences of their actions in terms that are age appropriate.

Inspiring conversations and in depth casual probing in regards to School Studies, Career thoughts, Sports and Bullying, should also be a part these meetings. Be truthful with questions and answers.

If you don't know the questions or what some of the proper answers should be, that's fine. We are here to help you with Motivating Your Children, we know the Motivating System very well. For over 20 years we have been Inspiring people Nationally.

I suggest following a Guide or Template for School Studies, Drug and Substance Abuse, Daily Life and Career Thoughts to form and in depth program. All of this can be done in a very Inspirational and Positive Manner. After a while your System will become second nature and have a definite rhythm to it. When done properly these meetings will be enjoyable with lots of feedback and develop a great line of communication with your children. You'll then understand why Motivating Your Children is so Important to their lives.

Darrel and Mary are Two Master Motivaters with Many years of experience with children, and their Behavioral Difficulties. We Want to Invite You to our website; http://www.We-Will-Motivate-You-Every-Day.com for and in depth look at our many possible solutions to your children's matters.
